About

Jackie Nguyen is a Canadian R&B, soul, and jazz vocalist/performer, composer, keyboard player,  and music instructor based in Vancouver, BC.

As music was always being played around the house, Jackie developed her love for music at a young age.  In high school, she joined the school choral program and quickly felt at home.  There, she went on to become a section leader, sang in the school's top auditioned choirs, was a featured soloist on many occasions, and also had the opportunity to sing with the BCMEA honours choir.  Jackie also sang and played guitar in church and led music services. During the summer before her final year in high school, she completed a conductors' course with the notable educator and conductor, John Trepp.

After high school, convinced that she couldn't make a living in music, she went off to study geography in post secondary.  It wasn't until after a year of studying climate and weather systems that a friend urged her to audition for the acclaimed Jazz studies program at Capilano University.

After a successful audition, she received a letter of acceptance into the jazz studies program as a vocal major at Capilano University; she has never looked back since.  During her 5 years in the jazz studies program, she furthered her piano skills, took vocal lessons from some of Canada's best vocal coaches, and honed her skills as an overall musician. Jackie also sang with Capilano University’s top vocal jazz ensemble, Nitecap, where she was a featured soloist on several occasions, and shared the stage with many world renowned musicians.  Jackie now holds a Bachelors of Music in Jazz Studies from Capilano University, and a Bachelors of Education, specializing in Music Education.

Having met many amazing musicians along the way, she has the pleasure of performing locally in Vancouver and in western Canada singing and fronting the dynamic 9 piece funk, soul, R&B band: The Phonix (www.thephonix.ca).  Jackie also writes music and looks forward to sharing more of her original music at venues and festivals near you!
